Welcome
Journal Recommendation Form
Please use this form to submit requests for new journals you would like to see in our library. If you would like to recommend a database, please use our Database Recommendation Form. If you would like to recommend a book or media purchase, please use our Book/Media Purchase Request form. We welcome your suggestions. Following is some information on our current subscription process.
Journal subscriptions are initiated very selectively as they require a commitment to an ongoing expenditure of funds, rather than a one-time purchase. For the past several years, the library's operating budget has remained flat, while journal costs have increased by an average of 5% each year. Before subscribing to a new journal the library will need to evaluate existing subscriptions, and in most cases will have to cancel a subscription of comparable cost. Decisions about changes to journal subscriptions require discussions at the academic department level in consultation with the library. Consistent with our Collection Development Policy, considerations for the library include appropriateness for the curriculum, inclusion in indexing and abstracting databases, reviews in library selection tools, pricing, and potential use of the subscription, among other factors.
Timeline for Journal Subscriptions
Journal subscriptions typically run from January to December. The library's journal renewal/cancellation decisions must be communicated to vendors by mid-September for subscriptions beginning the following January. Requests for changes to the library's journal subscriptions will be reviewed in the spring/summer time frame for action by the mid-September deadline. Participants in the review will include the Collection Development Librarian, Serials Librarian, liaison librarian for the requesting department, and departmental faculty.
