Electronic Course Reserves: Procedures for Faculty

Spring 10

Electronic reserves are now integrated into Blackboard. Students enrolled in your course are able to directly retrieve reserve items on Blackboard without logging in to a separate system.

Library Electronic reserves are an optional service to faculty. If you already have digital content and would like to upload your course reserve materials to "Course Documents" yourself, documentation for uploading your digital files to "Course Documents" may be found on Blackboard under "Teaching Faculty---Documents".

A separate reserve course card must be filled out for each course. Please fill out all the fields specified on the form.

You can fill out the printable pdf form and print it to be provided to the Library together with your course reserve materials.

Blank course cards are also available at the Library circulation desk

Complete a cover page for each article or book chapter.

If you have materials that are already digital, please submit these via the electronic reserve submission form

In compliance with the Copyright fair use guidelines the following materials can be placed on electronic reserves:

  • One article from a journal per class per semester
  • Up to 10% or 2 chapters of a book.s contents per class per semester whichever is less.

If you have printed documents, the library staff will scan your course reserve documents and load them into Blackboard. Please bring or mail your course items to the library Circulation Department as soon as possible with the required forms.

Articles are scanned and available on Blackboard in the order received. At the beginning of a semester there is a backlog. Please allow at least ONE week for new items/articles to be scanned and to appear on the Blackboard course page.

At the end of every semester all articles/items are archived. If you want archived items available to your students for another semester, list the items on a reserves course card. Items will be retrieved and placed on the Blackboard course page.

All items/articles will be returned to faculty via the campus mail as soon as scanning is completed.

To help us process your items quickly, please submit items on 8 « x 11 paper (white or light colored paper) with clear readable text (not highlighted, no pictures), and single sided copies with no staples.
